• Cover Crop Workshop and Tour--The workshop at the Big Flats Plant Materials Center will provide the opportunity to observe 36 different cover crops or mixes, some with several seeding dates. Observe results of techniques: (1) establishing cover crop at time of corn planting – 6 species and 2 herbicides methods, (2) the use of seed coatings to aid in establishing red clover, and (3) ryegrass with and without cultivation when corn was 18 inches tall. There will be a roller crimper on site. There will be 5 speakers and a farmer panel. A discussion will follow after the tour to identify barriers and develop strategies to increase cover crop implementation.

• On Farm Safety Survey Available to any agricultural operation.Safety surveys look at potential hazards around the farmstead, tractors and machinery. They also evaluate use of personal protective equipment.Survey takes about 1-1/2 hours and is geared to the farm owner or manager,but can include others. A checklist is used and a copy of the results will be provided to you after the survey.
