Cover Crop Workshop and Tour--The workshop at the Big Flats Plant Materials Center will provide the opportunity to observe 36 different cover crops or mixes, some with several seeding dates. Observe results of techniques: (1) establishing cover crop at time of corn planting – 6 species and 2 herbicides methods, (2) the use of seed coatings to aid in establishing red clover, and (3) ryegrass with and without cultivation when corn was 18 inches tall. There will be a roller crimper on site. There will be 5 speakers and a farmer panel. A discussion will follow after the tour to identify barriers and develop strategies to increase cover crop implementation.

On Farm Safety Survey Available to any agricultural operation.Safety surveys look at potential hazards around the farmstead, tractors and machinery. They also evaluate use of personal protective equipment.Survey takes about 1-1/2 hours and is geared to the farm owner or manager,but can include others. A checklist is used and a copy of the results will be provided to you after the survey.
